Based on the debut novel of the same name by writer Gillian Flynn ("Gone Girl"), the eight-episode series "Sharp Objects" stars Amy Adams, in her first major role on the small screen, as reporter Camille Preaker, who returns to her small hometown to investigate mysterious, unsolved crimes. Two girls are missing, one of whom was found dead and presumed murdered. As she searches for clues, Camille reunites with her estranged family -- overbearing mother Adora, stepfather Alan Crellin, and half sister Amma -- which rekindles traumatic childhood memories, including the death of her younger sister. Piecing together a psychological puzzle from her past, Camille begins to identify with the young victims a bit too closely.

Sharp Objects: Miniseries | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Eric Deggans NPR We don't see female anti-heroes like Camille on TV very often, a woman whose trauma and bad choices are written on her body in ways you will remember long after the show's final credits have rolled. Nov 25, 2019 Full Review Sharp Objects: Miniseries | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Lauren Carroll Harris Guardian Misogyny and trauma are the focus and the feeling of Sharp Objects, but the story is so empathetic to women's perspectives that it never feels exploitative. A deeply immersive, feminist take on TV crime. Jul 24, 2019 Full Review Sharp Objects: Miniseries | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Helen Holmes Observer Sharp Objects is part and parcel of the streaming era, not an outlier. Put another way, don't take my word for it that the show is fantastic. Michael O Sharp Objects is a fantastic story about abuse, addiction, and finding healing to overcome your trauma. Though a murder mystery, it falls a little flat in some areas. Amy Adams does a terrific job as Camile Preaker, who is on a journey to make sense of her childhood, trauma, and murder that plague her old hometown. Patricia Clarkson acts as a great foil that indirectly and directly interferes with that progress. Thats is where the series shines, with the exploration of trauma and how rampant it spreads through generations, especially in such a small town. And how that kind of environment breeds and sustains itself on said trauma. However, because of this, the mystery itself goes on the back side, which is disappointing but understandable since exploring Camile's trauma seems to be the show's primary goal. Because I would have liked to have more twists and turns in figuring out who is behind the murders, instead of investing one red herring until the end. The show doesn't have a big pool of suspects, nor does it parade any hidden revelations to keep the audience guessing. Though that doesn't make the last reveal any less shocking, it doesn't feel entirely earned. That being said, it's a great character piece with a great message, and for those who prefer the substance of character over everything else, you will be far from disappointed. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/23/24 Full Review Christian C Amy Adams put on a performance as beautiful as that in Arrival. The whole cast was stellar. Can't believe I had never watched this until now.I get why people would find it dragging and other issues such as the self harm on Amy's character but I dunno, I just felt it and was gripped by it. Maybe not on the level of True Detective season 1, as far as miniseries' go, but its definitely up there.I get why the last scenes were put after the credits but it should have been done after a few seconds of the credits rolling, not a minute.Loved it. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/22/24 Full Review William R SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, DRINKING, DRINKING, DRINKING! Could have been done in three episodes if they didn't have all the little side stories going on which meant nothing to the plot! I don't know why so many people rated it so high that it was one of the most drawn out mysteries I've ever watched. Very boring at times! It could have been so much more! Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review Audience Member A great series with good performances throughout and a very good ending. A great mystery that may be slow, but worth diving into. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/22/24 Full Review Audience Member The first seven episodes were amazing and if the final had been executed better this would have been an easy 5/5 for sure. For a slow paced show the ending felt very last minute and rushed. To get the full picture you need to watch into the credits, which most people don’t. The twist was good in itself but done terribly, felt like a slap in the face after watching such a well thought out story. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/12/24 Full Review Ray E Great series! Highly recommend if your in the mood for a good murder mystery.
