Is University of Delaware an Ivy? ›

The University of Delaware is thought to be one of just three privately chartered land grant institutions in America, the others are Cornell and MIT. Delaware is often referred to as a “Public Ivy” along with institutions such as Vermont, Penn State, College of William and Mary, and Virginia.

But this year, the school known for its "super parties" that often drew complaints from Newark residents has been dethroned. On the Princeton Review's annual list of the top party schools, UD fell behind top-ranked Syracuse University and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
