Alchemy is currently (arguably) the least fleshed out skill in the game. I want to try and change that today. In this post I will go over the changes to the skill and the relationship of Alchemy and the God potion.
► The current state
Alchemy, in its current state, is bland and repetitive. Skill XP is gained by brewing potions and claiming them from the Brewing stand, and the road to reaching level 50 in the skill is just to repeatedly brew potions using the most efficient ingredients for XP gain compared to price/obtainability. This is a problem because it means alchemy doesn't actually have content and it barely affects the other parts of the game, even though potion effects are crucial to the meta of the game as it stands. I do not want to change that, only to make the road towards getting all of these effects feel earned and maybe even enjoyable.
► How to gain Alchemy experience
Alchemy experience could be obtained by doing 3 different actions. The main method of gaining XP will be to gather brewing ingredients. This will be a passive way to get alchemy XP, and will probably be the main method. Like Taming, Alchemy will be a skill that you level passively while grinding other skills. The alchemy XP you gain will be 75% of the skill XP you gained in the main skill of the material you were grinding (affected by both Alchemy Wisdom and the Wisdom stat of the ingredient). The other two methods to gain Alchemy XP will be through the Brewing stand. One of which will still be to brew potions, but this will be nerfed to be 50% of the current XP gain in order to make this an "additional reward" to brewing potions. The third method of gaining experience will be talked about in the next section.
► What will happen to God potions?
God potions are currently in a pretty bad spot where in every update new effects get added. But if everyone would have access to these potions right away they would be very OP. Admins chose to combat this problem by just not adding these potions to the god potion, and sometimes making a Mixin for them later.
I think a better way to fix this problem is to make the God potion's effects change as you progress through Alchemy. Every level in alchemy you will unlock new potions that you can imbue all future God potions with. Once you imbue an effect into your potions you will gain a significant amount of Alchemy XP, which is the third and final way to gain experience in the skill.
While this is an immediate nerf to God potions, it is a buff in the long run, and will benefit the game and especially this system. The rest of this section is going to be the nerd part where I talk about the nerfs to God potions.
Effect | Current level | New base level (Reason) |
---|---|---|
Absorption | 8 | 0 (It's pretty useless anyways) |
Adrenaline | 8 | 0 (It's just some speed...) |
Agility | 4 | 0 (It's actually OP if you didn't know) |
All XP Boosts | 3 | 1 (I don't want to nerf it all the way but 20% XP boost from drinking a silly potion is a lot) |
Archery | 4 | 2, no brew (nerfing from 80% dmg to 25%) |
Burning | 4 | 0 (It's more op than you'd think) |
Critical | 4 | 2, no brew (25 cc is way too much, nerfed to 15) |
Dodge | 4 | 0 (Same reason as Agility) |
Experience | 4 | 4, no brew (Viking's tear OP) |
Fire resistance | 1 | 1 |
Haste | 4 | 1 (200 mining speed on early game can be quite a lot) |
Jerry Candy | 1 | 0 (TBH I'm surprised it's even in god potion) |
Jump Boost | 4 | 4 |
Magic Find | 4 | 0 (+75 MF!? who thought this was balanced?) |
Mana | 8 | 8 (WOW this potion sucks) |
Night Vision | 1 | 1 |
Pet Luck | 4 | 0 (20 pet luck is less OP than the MF potion but still pretty strong) |
Rabbit | 6 | 4 (Just reduced speed realistically) |
Regeneration | 9 | 5, no brew (63 health regen is crazy, 25 feels better for this stage of the game) |
Resistance | 8 | 5, no brew (I just want this to be unlocked) |
Speed | 8 | 6, no brew (Only 18 less speed) |
Spelunker | 4 | 0 (I just want this to be unlocked) |
Spirit | 4 | 0 (I have an idea for the potions from spooky event) |
Strength | 8 | 6, no brew (I just want this to be unlocked) |
Stun | 4 | 0 (TBH this potion is useless but eh) |
True Resistance | 4 | 0 (This is absolutely OP) |
Water breathing | 6 | 6 (Was thinking of reducing it for the funnies, though it might be useful in the future) |
► Brewing stands and Imbuing effects
Brewing stands are the work-bench of alchemy, but they will not be the main way to gain Alchemy XP. The brewing stand will be the new way to unlock unique effects into your future God potions in a method called Imbuing. In addition, the item the name of the item brewing stand will change to "Alchemy Station". The recipe and access to the menus of the item will be unlocked with Alchemy level 1.
Imbuing yourself with a potion is no easy task, but it is worth it for several reasons. Once you're imbued with an effect, you get Skyblock XP, Alchemy XP, and of course you unlock the effect in your God potions. Imbuing effects will be done in a new menu accessible through the Brewing stand, and will be the main menu of the alchemy stations from now on. If you want to brew potions you can still access that menu through a button at the bottom right of the Imbuing menu. On the bottom left of the menu you will be able to access "The Tome of Imbuing" which will be the recipe book of all the imbuements (this can also be accessed through the recipe menu and /imbue).
(Side note, when you are in the brewing menu the tome of imbuing will be switched to "The Brewing Cookbook", which will be the recipes of all potions you have unlocked.)
The Imbuing Menu is the opposite of the brewing menu, having 3 slots at the top and a result at the bottom. The recipes for Imbuing effects will range from 1 to 3 different ingredients being used. The next part of this section will be how you unlock recipes for different effects and their recipes.

► About Brews
Brews affect the stats of the current potion you have applied them on, But in the new system you can imbue yourself with brews as well. Once you do that any potion that the brew affects will be changed when you have it applied on you, no matter from which source. While some brews can be applied to more than 1 potion, if the effect is the same they will not be added more than once (looking at you coffees). The opposite is true as well, if a brew has completely different effects on different potions then it will be applied to all of them (just take a quick look at Bitter Iced Tea). Lastly, if a potion can be based on more than one brew, all brews will give their effects when you are imbued with them.
